Lunch with Mayor

On April 28th, 2018, the American Turkic Business Council organized a business luncheon forum at the Turquoise Center, where the Chief guest was the Mayor of Houston, Hon. Sylvester Turner. The focus of his keynote was about how Harvey brought Houston residents together to overcome the disaster that the hurricane has left and, its impact to the city’s economy.

To introduce his speech, the Mayor claimed to be honored to be as part of the event, and to serve the city of Houston, which he described as one of the most diverse cities in America. He expressed his appreciation for all Turkic communities who contributed in recovering the city from the catastrophe and is still looking forward to work with them for many years to come.

The Mayor emphasized about how the population of Houston is still harshly impacted by this tragedy; because at this time, thousands of people are still dwelling in hotels and are lacking financial needs for rebuilding their houses. However, all communities, including non-American residents joined in to help the city regain its strength again. Despite the disaster that Harvey left behind, the hurricane taught residents the value of solidarity during hard times.
